Question #1:

Anyone ever taken a "Mac" or Space A Available Flight and what was your experience like?

I'm thinking about taking a flight to Japan.

Question #2:

Ramadan: Are Asahhabe-Kahf and their dog still alive?

[Yusufali 18:15] "These our people have taken for worship gods other than Him: why do they not bring forward an authority clear (and convincing) for what they do? Who doth more wrong than such as invent a falsehood against Allah?
[Yusufali 18:16] "When ye turn away from them and the things they worship other than Allah, betake yourselves to the Cave: Your Lord will shower His mercies on you and disposes of your affair towards comfort and ease."
[Yusufali 18:17] Thou wouldst have seen the sun, when it rose, declining to the right from their Cave, and when it set, turning away from them to the left, while they lay in the open space in the midst of the Cave. Such are among the Signs of Allah: He whom Allah, guides is rightly guided; but he whom Allah leaves to stray,- for him wilt thou find no protector to lead him to the Right Way.
[Yusufali 18:18] Thou wouldst have deemed them awake, whilst they were asleep, and We turned them on their right and on their left sides: their dog stretching forth his two fore-legs on the threshold: if thou hadst come up on to them, thou wouldst have certainly turned back from them in flight, and wouldst certainly have been filled with terror of them.
[Yusufali 18:19] Such (being their state), we raised them up (from sleep), that they might question each other. Said one of them, "How long have ye stayed (here)?" They said, "We have stayed (perhaps) a day, or part of a day." (At length) they (all) said, "Allah (alone) knows best how long ye have stayed here.... Now send ye then one of you with this money of yours to the town: let him find out which is the best food (to be had) and bring some to you, that (ye may) satisfy your hunger therewith: And let him behave with care and courtesy, and let him not inform any one about you.
[Yusufali 18:20] "For if they should come upon you, they would stone you or force you to return to their cult, and in that case ye would never attain prosperity."
[Yusufali 18:21] Thus did We make their case known to the people, that they might know that the promise of Allah is true, and that there can be no doubt about the Hour of Judgment. Behold, they dispute among themselves as to their affair. (Some) said, "Construct a building over them": Their Lord knows best about them: those who prevailed over their affair said, "Let us surely build a place of worship over them."
[Yusufali 18:22] (Some) say they were three, the dog being the fourth among them; (others) say they were five, the dog being the sixth,- doubtfully guessing at the unknown; (yet others) say they were seven, the dog being the eighth. Say thou: "My Lord knoweth best their number; It is but few that know their (real case)." Enter not, therefore, into controversies concerning them, except on a matter that is clear, nor consult any of them about (the affair of) the Sleepers.
[Yusufali 18:23] Nor say of anything, "I shall be sure to do so and so tomorrow"-
[Yusufali 18:24] Without adding, "So please Allah!" and call thy Lord to mind when thou forgettest, and say, "I hope that my Lord will guide me ever closer (even) than this to the right road."
[Yusufali 18:25] So they stayed in their Cave three hundred years, and (some) add nine (more)
[Yusufali 18:26] Say: "Allah knows best how long they stayed: with Him is (the knowledge of) the secrets of the heavens and the earth: how clearly He sees, how finely He hears (everything)! They have no protector other than Him; nor does He share His Command with any person whatsoever.
[Yusufali 18:27] And recite (and teach) what has been revealed to thee of the Book of thy Lord: none can change His Words, and none wilt thou find as a refuge other than Him.

Question #3:

Help with some English sentence,phrase.?

This; The foot space under your seat in front of you is yours. (on flight)
I don't know what this means exactly. 'under my seat' is under my butt, that is, not in front of me.
Please advice.

and this; 'to get a few people ahead'
What's the meaning of the phrase?

Thank you!

Question #4:

Can you have a return flight booked months after the departure flight?

I want to fly up to Newark, NJ in Aug and stay for a bit, but I do plan on returning to Orlando, FL in November.
I noticed that round trip tickets are a bit cheaper, but can i space out the flights that far?

Question #5:

The Earth's magnetic field and space flight (potentially science fiction)?

I know this is almost certainly far fetched and improbable. However I would like to know quite how improbable it is?

The Earth is obviously magnetic with a North and South Pole, with opposites attracting and like poles repelling. It is the last part I thought could be made use of. My theory is we place a huge object or craft over the pole (I am talking in the scale of tens of miles so assume it would be very heavy and very large) which can be made to produce a magnetic field of it's own and by simply making it have the opposite polarity to the pole where it is constructed it should have a force pushing it away from the pole. How great would this force be?
Could this force be enough to get the craft a reasonable distance from the Earth, Ideally outside the atmosphere? I would not expect this force created to enable the craft to enter orbit, as I know that is in the region of 17K KM an hour. However if the object were already outside of the atmosphere this could serve as a platform to get payloads into orbit with greater ease (I assume that gravitational force bares some relation to proximity as well as the reduced cost of overcoming the friction caused by the atmosphere).

I imagine that the energy requirements for such a system would be huge, well beyond current technologies.

So if people out there could answer these questions that would be great and if you think it completely improbable then please state why;
1) How great is the force that can be created by this magnetic rejection if the Earth is one of the poles and a man made structure with hugh energy the other?
2) Would this force be enough to force a very heavy object several miles from the Earth's surface?
3) What would scale would the energy requirements be to produce a magnetic field of this scale?
4) Could the use of such a system harm the Earth both it's natural workings and man made workings(I imagine a huge magnetic field like this would affect much of the worlds electronics)
5) How large would such an object need to be to be able to create stability? I again imagine; that a many armed object which is able to alter the strength of the magnetic field over its parts so that it would rise in the direction desired.
Caolan; according to Newtonian physics, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Therefore the Earth and the object move away from one another, however the Earth barely moves as it is so massive (contains a lot of mass) as opposed to any object we would create.

It's all relative to where you are ofcourse.

Question #6:

Whiter roofs and paler pavements (seriously)?

It seems like an idea ridiculed here can make a serious contribution to mitigating warming:

Reporting on Menon et al. Radiative forcing and temperature response to changes in urban albedos and associated CO2 offsets. Environmental Research Letters, 2010; 5 (1): 014005 DOI: 10.1088/1748-9326/5/1/014005

“In the latest study, the Berkeley Lab researchers and their collaborators used a detailed global land surface model from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, which contained regional information on surface variables, such as topography, evaporation, radiation and temperature, as well as on cloud cover. For the northern hemisphere summer, they found that increasing the reflectivity of roof and pavement materials in cities with a population greater than 1 million would achieve a one-time offset of 57 gigatons (1gigaton equals 1 billion metric tons) of CO2 emissions (31 Gt from roofs and 26 Gt from pavements). That's double the worldwide CO2 emissions in 2006 of 28 gigatons."
I am rather hoping someone will give me an opinion based on examining the claim, without simply asserting that the effect must "obviously" be too small to matter.
Linlyons; I did say whiter, not white. I had a reflective pale plastic roof in the US. And I could feel the heat coming off black asphalt roads in Texas.

Question #7:

Has the future been delayed (REPOST)?

On July 20, 1969 (41 years ago),
Neil Alden Armstrong, as part of the Apollo 11 mission, was the first ever human being to set foot on another world, that time on Earth's own moon. Apollo 11 was followed by 6 other Apollo missions which had landed on the moon, and thus having a total of twelve people walk on the Moon. The last time humans have ever set foot on the moon was in December 14, 1972 (38 years ago) during the Apollo 17 mission. Since then, no human have ever set foot on another world.

Today is July 19, 2010,
41 years since the very first lunar landing and 38 years since the very last lunar landing.
Although the human race continues exploring the universe via robotic probes and telescopes, they themselves don't get involved. The only great achievement that the human race has constructed in space during the past decade is the one and only, the International Space Station.

Personally,
I feel anger and frustration,
knowing that logically, since the very first lunar landing, which was in 1969, and the very last lunar landing which was 3 years later in 1972, if those or any other lunar missions were conducted, then technically, in an estimated of 10 years of continuous lunar missions, by 1979, we could already have permanent International bases on the moon, and by adding 10 more years, in 1989, there could have been commercial flights to the moon, and just imagine what could have been there right now in 2010! I also assume that 20 years after continuous lunar missions, by 1989, there could have been the first ever human mission to Mars. And 10 years after the first human had set foot on Mars, in 1999, there could have been permanent bases on Mars. And in 10 more years, in 2009, there could have been commercial flights to Mars. And that my friends, brings us to the "what should have been present", of the year of 2010.

And why is our future being delayed?
The most common answer for this is money, not in technology.
Well, if that is the truce case of it, then all I can say is "F" whoever banned the Apollo missions (period).

Question #8:

First time flight questions? (On spirit airlines)?

Last night me and my sister booked a flight from FLL to LGA on aug 3 through the 10. While were booking the flight they website specified that all flights after aug1 will provide a carry on fee for lugguge but it said that you can bring one free personal item that will fit under the seat.

Will a school bookbag filled with clothes fit? (it said it must not be bigger than 16x14x12)
About how big is the space under the seat?
they didnt mention any weight requirements but will they have any?

Also we didnt book our seats because they charged you extra for that.

Will they seat us randomly for free? or do we still have to pay?

Also once i get to the airport what do i do? and where do i go?

Any help will be appreciated since this is our first time traveling.

Btw im 16 and my sister is 18 we arent considered unaccompanied minors are we?

Question #10:

How much per year do flight attendants make?

After college I want to be a flight attendant. Free travel, I love flying, don't need experience, and I can live at home - no need to pay rent if I'm not there all of the time, and I won't have to deal with my parents 24/7 like now. When I find a better job that pertains to my major, I'll obviously switch, but it would be fun in that weird space between college and work.

Question #11:

Can I bring a box of chocolates in a carry on bag on to an airplane?

Medium sized box that is wrapped up in plastic it hasn't
Been opened yet. Would I be allowed to take it
In my carry-on? If I put it into my check in bag
Will it melt in the luggage space? It's an 11 hour flight.

Question #12:

Critique my novel please, is it good or bad?

K some of you might've seen my other q about my prologue, so I'm fixing it up, I'm putting in Ch.1, do you think it's a good story? Would you read the rest of it? I know I probably have a lot of grammar errors and stuff so go ahead and tell me about that at the end. Also this is chapter two so it may not be very exciting, sorry. Tips to make my beginning exciting anyone?

Ch.1

I stepped off the plane into the state of Tennessee. I recalled the panorama of the state from below the window of my plane. There were so many trees, so much space, and so much farmland. I couldn’t help but laugh, it was so different from New York, I’m definitely not a country girl. If I lived here, I would miss the lights, the buildings, the crowds, and I would definitely miss the fact that you could walk anywhere at just about any time and get just about anything you need. A place as big as this would definitely need you to drive around much more to get to where you need to go.
I decided to relax a little bit before I left, I was three hours early anyways, I sat down and texted my friend Kate. But as I was going on about how rough my flight was and telling her I’d be home soon I realized I felt more watched than I was before. I looked around, dark shadows snuck behind various objects; the strangest thing was I noticed one in the shape of a large dog, that’s impossible. The only dogs here are small dogs crated by their owners and large bomb sniffing dogs that always had handlers with them.
I shook my head and pinched my eyes together very hard, when I opened them there was no signs of the strange darting shadows. I dismissed them as illusions of my brain from lack of sleep. I decided to put my cell phone down and rest.
When I awoke there was still an hour until my flight left, I decided to get to my gate and chill there for a while. I found my way to the stairs leading down to where my gate to New York would be. I trekked them up to the top floor. I took a short walk toward my gate I was almost there when I heard the clinking of money as they hit the ground. I turned around; there was some guy who knelt on the floor picking up the coins. Naturally, I was pretty much the most helpful person out there I walked over and started plucking the round metal discs off the floor. I got up and handed it to him in his waiting palm (Yet another random good deed to a random stranger from Alex the benevolent).
I was about to turn around when the guy spoke to me “Thanks”, I turned around to reply. But as soon as I took my first look at him the words stopped in my throat. I looked into his ocean blue eyes as he stared into mine. Something weird stirred deep inside me. We kept eye contact for a few seconds longer when out of nowhere I realized I was getting woozy, soon the ground rushed up to my face and then I felt nothing as I drifted into unconsciousness.

As my brain began to stir in the darkness behind my eyes the thoughts inside my head was I feinted, I actually feinted! I’ve never feinted a day in my life! I realized I was lying down on the floor, I ripped my eyes open to figure out where I was, I was staring into the face of a paramedic, some tan colored man with graying hair. “You alright there?” , He asked in a desperate voice, my brain also took to account that there was a crowd standing around, like I was some sort of spectacle. Immediately, I felt completely embarrassed, but nobody knew, my cheeks don’t flush red which is a good thing since I’d probably be even more embarrassed, and then I’d look like a human lobster.
I was slow to respond after fitting the pieces together. I stood up, the paramedic helping me along as if I was a child, “Um… yeah I’m fine” I replied “What happened?” The man in front of me shrugged and said, “I dunno, you tell me, one minute you were up and BOOM! I had to come see to you, good thing that young man over there caught you or your might’ve hit the floor gotten seriously injured, you’re mighty lucky if you ask me”. The paramedic pointed to the same guy that I saw before, the teen with the jet black hair and pale skin with blue eyes. He was leaning against the wall with his phone texting in his phone to some unknown person. I felt the same strange emotion before that I could not place a name for, I looked away quickly to silence these strange feelings as I looked back at the paramedic men, he uttered a short sentence. “Well, good bye, and be more careful next time”. I said in return “I will, thanks for helping me”. I watched as the burly man in uniform walked off.
I looked back at the same guy, some random stranger who saved me from serious injury. That put my random act of kindness to shame. As embarrassed as I felt, I felt like I had to express my gratitude to him. But as I looked towards him the feelings inside me pulsed with intensity. I stood there for a long time doing nothing. Why couldn’t I just walk over there and thank him, why was I just standing here wa

Question #14:

Any Ideas on where I can get a doorway curtain?

Soo I'm moving in with some new roommates to a new house and I am getting the loft bedroom. Its the entire top floor all to myself and has tons of space which is awesome, but the only problem is there is not a door. You still have to enter a doorway and walk up a flight a of stairs to reach it so its not like an empty doorway on the second floor hallway, but itd be nice to get some extra privacy. I was thinking about getting some sort of curtain setup for the doorway, preferably thick fabric, but I can't seem to find much on standard department store sites jut regular curtains. I'm sure I can cook something up but i was wondering If anyone had any specific ideas as to where I could find a solution. Thanks!

Question #15:

Four beats per line, does it stifle or help this poem?

There was a time
when I believed
in pixie dust
and angel wings.

Whimsical lore
that took my mind
far, far away
from space and time.

Now I've grown up
with both my feet
firmly planted,
reality deep.

No longer can
I take swift flight,
there's no escape
from life's harsh plight.

But when I dream
the child in me
remembers when
I was once free.
Edit: Last line to "I once was free."

Question #16:

WOW, What a Coincidence! John Gedmark (leader of a group advocating commercial spaceflight) donates to Obama?

And Obama shifts the US direction to Commercial Space Flights. Talk about a coincidence.

Does this Presidency just have the most Amazing coincidences of anyone in the world?

Former NASA administrator Michael Griffin, who championed the Constellation program, views the Obama budget as disastrous for human space flight.

"It means that essentially the U.S. has decided that they're not going to be a significant player in human space flight for the foreseeable future. The path that they're on with this budget is a path that can't work," Griffin said, anticipating the Monday announcement.

Thursday's vote came a year after Ms. Garver and NASA chief Charles Bolden were confirmed by the Senate. Since then, both appointees--who had high-level NASA jobs under previous administrations--have been sharply criticized and even personally attacked on Capitol Hill.

Some lawmakers have accused Ms. Garver, a longtime supporter of commercial-space endeavors, of working behind the scenes to allegedly unduly influence Mr. Bolden to support such policies. Mr. Bolden has been repeatedly criticized by lawmakers for failing to supply adequate backup information and analysis to support the agency's policy shift.

More recently, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs took the NASA administrator to task for indicating on Middle Eastern television that one of the agency's goals was to "reach out to the Muslim world" on scientific matters. In an unusual public slap at Mr. Bolden, Mr. Gibbs told reporters that goal wasn't one of the NASA chief's assigned responsibilities. In a prepared statement earlier this week, the NASA chief acknowledged that he regrets his televised remarks "mischaracterized" the agency's core mission.

On Thursday, Ms. Garver and a different White House spokesman declined to comment on Mr. Bolden's statements, or discuss whether the NASA chief's job may be in jeopardy.
John Gedmark, executive director of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, an industry group advocating commercial spaceflight, has said the White House's plan partly builds on proven technologies and was likely to get astronauts into orbit sooner than traditional NASA-run programs seeking to replace the space shuttles.

That White House proposal has prompted broad bipartisan opposition, with critics saying it would undermine U.S. leadership in space and threaten U.S. jobs. Those concerns are still alive, and other Senate and House committees still could weigh in to substantially change the outlines of any final compromise.

President Barack Obama is expected to support the bill, which fully funds his overall budget proposal and backs his efforts to foster a new U.S. commercial-space industry. The administration's goal is to deliver both cargo and crews to the orbiting international space station in the second half this decade.

Question #19:

Claustrophobia in planes : |?

'm 15 years old, I've been on planes lots of times since I'm a little child.
There was no problem for me. I've flown lots of times to Brazil (8h flight), Bangkok (10h flight), Singapore (also 10 or 11h flight),.. I was used to it.

But since I had to fly from Oporto to Barcelona,( just 1h/ 1h30 flight) in a really small plane (i think it was an embraer) as I got in the plane I started having a feeling of panick, my heart was racing, my hands started sweating,... because of the tight space with a lot of people. I know it's strange but I don't think I have claustrophobia but by that time I was sure that I was experiencing claustrophobia. Don't ask how it's possible but I felt it, it was like my brain was saying that to me! I felt like I wanted to shout, I told my dad I couldn't stay there but he tried to calm me.
Then I sat down in my seat and started deeply breathing and then I relaxed. and during that 1hour I didn't have that feeling again.. (because I thought: It's just 1hour! I can do it.)

The problem is that in a few months I'm going to fly to Rio de Janeiro (10 hour flight) and I'm scared of feeling that again. I don't think it will happen because the plane is big and I'll be in business class. . but I'm scared of losing control : s

Q1: Is it possible to feeling claustrophobia without really having claustrophobia? Or Am I a claustrophobic without knowing it?

Q2: Why did I never have this feeling on planes before and I'm having it now? Does claustrophobia symptoms get worse as you get older?

Q3: What can I do to feel better if I feel that on a plane?
P.S- My problem isn't being surrounded by many people. my problem is being in very tight space : s

Question #20:

What branch should I join for these long-term careers?

I'm going into the military for a long-term career after ROTC, and I want to go into one of these careers. I'm graduating with a Physics or Aeronautical Engineering Degree from Texas A&M University, and plan to return there or one of the military post-graduate schools for my Masters/Doctorate.

Space Operations
Air Traffic Control
Engineering (Nuclear/Aeronautical)
Military Scientist
Computer (Engineering/Network Security)
Command Center (or something of the sort)

If I'm confident that I will pass the flight preliminary exam, then I'll go Air Force for the F-22 fighter or C-17 transport. Thank you for reading, and responding, I need help.
30+ years?
